"Today the professional bonsai artists had a bonsai, suiseki and table auction next to the Ueno Green Club in Tokyo.
The past two hours were very, very interesting! Most of all the well known, and not so well known bonsai professionals were there bidding on items.... quite expensive. It was amazing to see the prices jump in US$10,000. increments! The individual auctions went very quickly and took about ONE minute each, everyone less than five minutes each. Remember, items were being sold for tens of thousands of dollars (NOT yen). And, the buyers were all professionals too. The items were on display for about two days prior to the auction.
In about 10 minutes one buyer purchased two trees and spent over US$500,000!
The two most expensive items were both Japanese five-needle pine bonsai. One was a very famous bonsai which has a history of about one hundred years in a container. The bark is very old and extends up to the needles. It is a Nasu Japanese five-needle pine from the northern region of Japan and has superb needles, straight and short.
This one bonsai sold for US$330,000.
The other expensive Japanese five-needle pine was also interesting because Shinji Suzuki won the Prime Minister Award in December at the Professional Bonsai Creators' Exhibition. Also interesting is that HE was bidding to purchase the tree too. I think it belongs to his customer and so he wanted it. The same buyer who purchased the other pine also purchased this specimen too. It sold for US$180,000. A couple days earlier Shinji Suzuki sold a Japanese black pine for US$350,000. so I guess he had some money to spend..."

Jeżeli jednak wyszły spod ręki Mistrzów sztuki bonsai, to mają one jedną cechę wspólną:
